More blogging...

So, when I started this blog I thought I would have a lot to write about. Turns out I don't really enjoy writing. Funny thing is that SPPS is pushing "Write to Learn" which is a program where the students write more just to get more writing practice. The point isn't to always correct the actual writing but to use it cross-curriculum so the students just get more practice. The idea is that the students process and hold the information better when forced to write about it. I believe in this idea, I think it is important. I use it all the time in both Social Studies and English. Although my writing techniques are not what they should be - I find it nice that I don't have to always use the red pen.

One thing that I have found with my students while trying to push this in my own classes is that they have such a hard time putting their ideas on paper. It as if they can't commit to the idea that they have. It is as if their pencil doesn't have an eraser. So many times I have had to take the paper away from their eyes in order to get their ideas. Once they don't see their commitment they are able to come up with great ideas. Obviously I put the paper back in front of them and tell them to write just that. It is an amazing recognition to them that they just did what was so hard.

I am not a writer, in any way, shape or form - but I would like to practice. I looked back on the number of blog posts I have done since I started and the most I have been able to do is 9 in one month. BOO. I can do better then that!

So, I now make it a challenge to myself - blog at least half of the days in February. I think I can do it. Since it is the 4th, and it is already my second blog.

I would also like to add more pictures. Maybe I will take the time to take some of Lady and Bandit when they are sharing their water. haha - that only happens in a blue moon. Maybe more of them separate!

Okay... that is about it for now. I will do what I make my students do - Practice.
